While that was it's purpose at first; after some scouting missions it got determined that the "local fauna" was not suitable to turn this into a resort for the rich.
How it came from being a real estate dream to a playground for the mega corporations is a political tale in nature. For while everyone thinks the Empire holds the power, the real power is held by a plutocracy of companies.
While under law, no person, nor company may hold a planet; Calypso was made a loophole. Officially, it is an independent planet outside of Empire jurisdiction. And in fact the only non-hostile one.
In reality it is playground for the rich and the adventurous. It became a haven for criminals, fortune seekers, pioneers and anyone seeking to escape the mind-numbing military pseudo-socialism that is the Empire.
So, I set off at the brink of dawn and walked in what I presume was the direction of Troy. Only to realize that I set foot into a pristine piece of nature. I watched the herds of exarosauria graze and felt a tranquility transcend over me, I had never before experienced.
Although that joyful walk into nature came abruptly to an end when I encountered some less friendly animals. This is a jungle, and I uncocked my carbine just in time to ward off a not so friendly daikiba mother, watching over her cups.
So with more caution I resumed my travels. But not only the fauna is hostile here. I cut myself on thorns, almost twisted my ankle on a rocks-, and then it started to rain heavily.
But eventually, in late afternoon a building popped up from the horizon, and good grief, I was so happy to see a sign from civilization.
Fort Troy is not that big compared to Atlantis, but it holds two very significant buildings. The first is the broadcasting network and the second is the exchange. Although the latter has little use, since there is no stock-market yet on Calypso.
I'm going to settle here for a while, before I continue to explore the lands. There is a nice vibration to this place. It's is alive, full of hope; it's viral.
